Hi. I’m Charlie.
I'm an aesthetically-minded freelance Product Development Specialist and Mechanical Designer with over 20 years of experience in product development, mechanical design, and manufacturing.
I’m passionate about bringing to market beautiful, honest, and simple-to-use (not to be confused with simple-to-design) products that create an enriched experience for its users.
Since graduating in 2005 from Queen’s University with a bachelor’s as well as a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, I’ve worked my way up to becoming the Director of Engineering and Lead Mechanical Engineer for some of Canada’s top design firms, executing and managing countless projects through all stages of development, from ideation and prototyping, to design for manufacturing and mass-production. Then in 2021, I decided to start Charlie Man Design Inc., giving me the opportunity to offer a more integrative, efficient, and customized product design experience to my clients.
Over the course of my 20-year career, I've helped countless individuals, startups, and enterprise clients successfully bring their product ideas to market. I'm intimately familiar with designing products for a variety of industries, including consumer electronics, medical imaging devices, surgical equipment, dental instrumentation, health & wellness, wearable technologies, digital kiosks/displays, casino slot machines, and video gaming hardware. And with my extensive experience in industrial design, mechanical design, prototyping, design for manufacturing, and mass production, I can help you realize and commercialize your product as well.
These days, I work out of my home studio in the eclectic neighborhood of Leslieville in Toronto, Canada, with my partner, Devan, and our cats, Cosmo and Sparrow.
